In the aftermath of Muhlaysia Booker's and Chynal Lyndsey's murders in Dallas, and dozens mounting each year in Texas; our diverse communities convened to discuss solutions.
Starting with just $7,000 gathered from donations we were impassioned to find answers, healing and take action.
When we polled Black Transgender Women here in Dallas, we recognized that most avenues for housing, employment, counseling, and other life-saving resources were inaccessible or nonexistent.
We asked:
What kind of help did Black Trans Women like Muhlaysia and Chynal truly need?
How does intersectionality affect access to the resource landscape in Dallas?
Why are there no existing services dedicated exclusively to Black Trans Women to end the epidemic of violence in Texas?
The House of Rebirth was created to provide a sustainable answer to these questions and many more.
The House of Rebirth, transgender people, and our allies have all taken action to radically change how we provide services and empower communities of color through a trauma-informed and culturally competent lens.
